27 Things to do during COVID-19: Lockdown Ideas

Here's a bunch of things to do for you losers that go out every weekend and can't anymore, JK

Welcome to the introvert life!

Yes, we know it sucks. Even if you don't party all weekend, you might enjoy going to the park, watching a movie or having breakfast with your boo on a Saturday morning ... But here's the thing .. You don't have to stop doing those things but rather change the situation of it! Do it at home! Take a walk in your own garden, slap a movie on your laptop/TV and turn on your air-conditioning! Make breakfast and video call your bae so you can eat together! Technology has afforded us the kind of luxury we often take for granted but more on that some other time!

Here's a list of 27 things you can do during lockdown:

1. Watch a movie. Netflix, Showmax, Hulu or damn download a movie. The limit does not exist! You can watch whatever you want! Pick a genre, pop some popcorn and snuggle in whether it's morning, noon or night!

2. Online parties are a thing guys! Zoom, Skype, WhatsApp! Get on a video conference and do wine club! Host a class! Do bookclub!
3. Watch a YouTube tutorial and actually try it. Boredom can be a deep abyss of darkness but with the uncontrollable number of content being put out there, you're bound to find something you're interested in and want to try it. Watch an eyeshadow tutorial and give it a bash - take a million selfies after if it makes you feel good. Learn to tie a knot, pick a lock or even a new quick recipe.
4. Cook/Bake something. If you indulged in panic buying, chances are your pantry is overflowing with groceries. Leave the can goods alone and opt for a minimal recipe - 2 ingredient dough, 3 ingredient cheesecake or even a quick pasta dish.

5. Read. That's it. A book, a blog or even the back of your aerosol freshener in the bathroom.
6. Start a YouTube channel or blog or Facebook Page about your daily going on's. Whatever. We're living through a history lesson here kids. Give the future generations some content to view in a hundred years.
7. Play Fortnite. Yes, the time has come.
8. Clean out things. Your drawers, cupboards, pantry, bookshelves or whatever it is you haven't touched in the last 5 years.
9. Start a course or learn something. While many people view these 3 weeks of lockdown as a time of rejuvenation, if you're not the type then learn something! Udemy or Google course. There are a bunch of free material out there.

10. Relax for a few days. Sleep, lay outside in the sun. Rest without beating yourself up for it.
11. Video call people! Put on your best sundress and video call your bae! Call your nieces and nephews to say "hello". They will appreciate it more than you think.
12. Exercise. Yes, there are thousands of at home workouts on YouTube or free apps to download. If you're not the type then walk outside your house or around your apartment. Get moving. You'll feel tons better.
13. Plan some cool stuff for after the shitshow is over. Plan that trip, a budget to save for your own place. Whatever it is, use the time to think of things you've been putting off.
14. Rearrange your life. Apart from cleaning out your spaces, use the time to put things in the correct place. Paperwork, old documents and the necessary stuff deserve a space so you don't have to stress about them later on. Time to utilise your diary and put in important dates, things you want to do and places you need to be. Once everything blows over you will have a sense of the time and know what you need to do.

15. Get some help. If everything is too much. You're too anxious and can't deal with being inside. Talk to a professional. Many professionals can assist you over email or video call. You're not weak if you can't deal with things. It's new to all of us.
16. If it's in your capacity, help someone. Donate something, groceries or even money. A little goes a long way to someone in need.
17. Consider fostering a dog or cat. THEY DO NOT SPREAD COVID-19! Foster or adopt and you might just fall in love with your new furry friend. They need more help than we do right now.

18. Make a list, like this one of all the things you can do during your days of lockdown. If you have one thing to do each day, the time will pass faster and you will wake up each day with more purpose.
19. Working from home might already be something you're doing, so your time is passing anyway but if you're not then consider doing a bit to lighten the load for when you're back. These times are uncertain and better pro-active than under-active.
20. Cleanse. Go on a juice cleanse, soul cleanse. Whatever you need to feel lighter,free-er and see clearly. Random peeps have been saying that the Earth is being cleansed by this virus but without thinking of it that way, you might be able to use this time to cleanse yourself.
21. Start a habit. They say it takes roughly 21 days to form a habit. Start drinking a litre of water in a day or saying an affirmation. Do something you want to keep doing.

22. Binge watch old series and put together a list on Spotify, of all the songs you once loved! I love sitting with Shazam open to catch a song I like, then searching for it later. Alternatively you can look on sites like TuneFind which is much less fun in my opinion.
23. Have a braai at home with your family that live in your home! Just bae and you? Mom and dad? Whatever, the supermarkets are still open for ONE MEMBER of the family to pop out quick and safely to pick up some braai stuff! Get back home, get the fire started and pop on some tunes!
24. Be mindful of the social media you consume. We ain't gonna say lock that shit down but remember, fake news is out there and can cause more panic and frustration so use social media for your entertainment and to find cool shit to read. Opt to get your updates from the news i.e on TV or radio bulletins.
25. Learn how to slow down. We often say "you need to slow down and take a break". We usually do but never cultivate it as a lifestyle choice. Here's the chance to learn how to; 5 minute meditation break. Yoga at your desk. Whatever it is to give you some mindfulness. Find it and stick to it even after!

26. Do an "e-cleanup". Delete old emails, remove shitty Facebook friends. Backup your pictures to your hard-drive or cloud storage.
27. Don't forget to spread a little love and support! Whether you're struggling or not, we're all in this together and could do with a little love. Send a cute picture or share something funny to brighten up someone's day!

So, if you're "non-essential" personnel and are clamped down for lockdown, what are your plans?
